Coming Soon - Georgia Aquarium photos

Post by Ltrepeter2000 »

Hey everyone...

I had a chance to visit the Georgia Aquarium this last weekend with Lori and so hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to send out photos from our visit. It was pretty amazing although not as many exhibits as I would have hoped. The Ocean tank is out of this world though. It is 6,200,000 gallons and has four whale sharks among 85,000 fish. There is also an exhibit with 4 beluga whales. I will get them posted as soon as I get them loaded to a computer.

Thanks
Rob

Awesome pictures Rob! Jim suggested possibly doing a GWAPA field trip down to that aquarium. Any idea on how far of a drive it would be from D.C. area? I'm guessing it would be a 2-day trip?

I checked last night out of curiosity.

Roughly $240 round trip from BWI to ATL Fri-Sun, or 11 hours driving.

Cheers.

Kris

Jim is about right on about the drive. I would recommend flying since its only an hour and a half flight. You could theoretically do the trip in a day then.
The only thing I was kind of disappointed in were that there are many large displays and not a large number of displays. If you were making it a weekend then you would also want to drive to Chattanooga(about a two hour drive) and see the aquarium there. I am going to be going up there sometime next month. It seems to have quite a variety of exhibits and seems a little better at habitat specific displays. Let me know if there is anything else I can find out while down here. Georgia Aquarium only gives group rates to 25 or more in case you get to that point of the planning.

Hmm... I wonder if this isn't a bit far for a trip in and of itself. Now, if we manage to get enough people interested to take a van trip down to Florida to collect plants, maybe this could be a stop along the way?
