Some people on plantedtank.net are talking about soilmaster for a substrate. Anyone know what it is? Sounds a little like Aquasoil.

Ben,
It's more like Shultz Aquatic soil than Aquasoil, though apparently not quite as light. It's available at www.lesco.com. They sell a 50 lb. bag for $16.00 and you can order the charcoal color to be delivered to a Lesco store near your home. Make sure you get the Soilmaster Select as that has the grain size you'll want.
