Refilling CO2 question

Post by Larry Grenier »

Pleace near me said that they exchange, not refill. Is this the SOP? Are they all the same?

The place in Laurel doesn't exchange at all....tank is yours, they just refill.

Laurel exchanges the 20# tanks, but refills anything under that. If you're not married to your tank, exchanging isn't a bad thing because then you don't have to worrying about safety testing your tank every few years.

Thanks folks. Next questions :-) Are they all the same meaning the AZOO or whatever regulator will fit them all? Where is the best place (economical yet reliable) to go to get one? Also, what do you guys do, exchange or refill? I'm planning on a 20lb tank and a regulator with a dual manifold.

The placest closest to my house said this:
The 20lb cylinder retails for $215.00 and the contents is $26.94
We DO NOT refill at any of our locations, we exchange only
Thanks for you help and patience

Yes, all standard co2 regulators should have the same fittings and fit any standard co2 tank. Paintball regulators and tanks are different, though.

I do the exchange. As Kris mentioned, that means it's not my worry about getting the tank hydrotested. I got good deals on co2 tanks on ebay. Roberts Oxygen has no problem exchanging tanks bought somewhere else, as long as they have the tare weight and hydrotest date stamped on them.

That price seems really high to me. Pick up a used one cheap somewhere like Craigslist, Ebay, etc.. and swap it out. Airgas will swap even if the hydro test is no longer any good.

I've been looking for a place that will fill 20 lb. tanks. I can't justify buying a new one otherwise. What do they charge there?

Larry - If you can find a place to fill it a new 20 lb. tank is easily found online for $130 or so + shipping.

Is there a Robert's Oxygen near you? I have always found their prices reasonable.

$215 for a tank is very high. Just a quick search found Aquariumplants.com has a 20# for $121.99, plus $7 shipping.
