Eheim Skim350

Post by tug »

I was able to get my hands on the Eheim Skim350. They're just starting to be available outside of European market and I can tell you, if you use a canister filter or your tank suffers from surface film, I highly recommend this little skimmer. It has a footprint so small you will hardly notice it and your water's surface will be clear as glass. :D

When I first got it, I forgot to adjust the flow and it made a lot of noise.
It was working, but I was getting lots of bubbles and that sucking sound.
Crap! I bought two of these sight unseen.

Then I realized I could adjust/reduce the flow - no noise, no bubbles and no more surface scum.

Stop over on the 27th and take a look.

Fish and/or shrimp can get into the overflow but not past the sponge filter or ground up by the pump. So, better then a Vuppa from what I've heard.
I have lost a fish when I forgot to open it when I drained water from the tank during a WC.

The sponge needs to be cleaned regularly but you might go longer then a week or two before cleaning is needed.
Fortunately, it is easy to open and remove the filter pad for cleaning.

That is about it. Quiet and fast acting. In the amount of time it takes to drink a beer your surface film will be gone.

Thanks! They seem to be rare when I was looking last night. I'll keep looking.
