I'd like to finally get moving on putting my mopani in the tank. I haven't soaked it yet. I suppose I should do it just to make sure there isn't some poison lurking in it so I'll do it soon.
If it leaches tanins are they a problem for fish? Or is it just a aesthetics issue? Frankly I'd put up with some brown water for a bit to make some progress. I assume it would eventually dissipate with water changes.
Comments?
Thanks

Re: Tannins?
Tannins are pretty much just an aesthetic issue, provided you don't lech so much out that the pH crashes down.
Mopani is nasty with the amount it can let out, though. You can make tanks so dark you can't see 2" into them. :-/

Re: Tannins?
I've used Mopani before and it's a very heavy wood and sinks quicker than most but it will turn the water into tea for some time but it doesn't hurt anything and it might make your fish feel more at home.
Sincerely,

Soaking now outside. I'll give it a few changes of water over the next few days.
Thanks all!
