Fluval 406 vs Ehiem Pro II

Post by sfarkhan »

I have a little voice in the back of my head telling me to return the Fluval 406 and use the Eheim Pro II 2028...

Some of you saw the Eheim at the auction last weekend. I have someone interested in the filter and the part is $20 with shipping on Amazon.com - It made me compare the specifications of the two in depth and the Fluval (regardless of filter size) designed for a smaller tank - Given their respective specs. I know Eheims are super reliable, but in putting the Fluval together - It seems well built and thought out.

Would it make a difference for a 57 gallon planted tank or am I just being over cautious?

I don't want to double filter - I'd rather have one very effective filter than two (less complex).

Just spoke to someone and the Fluval is overkill for this tank, so I'm just going to stick with it :) I may also stick with the Eheim - it's an orphan and needs a tank with plants and fish to care for...

I'm with Viktor. You can never have too many spare tanks, filters, lights, bags of substrate...

Cheers.

I have a spare 2215 under my desk waiting for a tank to come along, hang on to it.

I use an Eheim 2028 on my 57 gal, and it works great. Mine is plumbed through the bottom of the tank and provides decent circulation for the lower half of the tank, but I use a Koralia powerhead to help things out at the surface. I also have a 2215. Many people (150EH included) will lay down their lives for the Classic series, but I like the convenience features of the Pro II. I can remove, clean, and reinstall the 2028 in 10 minutes.

I have a spare 2217 hanging out as well. Altogether I have 2x 2217 3x 2213 and 1 2211 or what I call the baby eheim. Never used a pro eheim though. Pricey

I was lucky to find the Pro used, it wasn't super pricey. I see some filter collectors :) I don't know how long I can resist the desire for another tank... This one is not even ten days old... :)
