Vegetarian Assassin Snails

Post by novafish »

I just discovered that my Assassin snails are vegetarians. Of course they'll eat MTS and earthworm sticks, etc, but yesterday I hung some zucchini in my Assassin tank to feed some Paraotocinclus. To my surprise, the Assassins swarmed the zucchini. Then, I read online that zucchini should be fed to Assassins to add calcium to their shells. Anyone else have experience with this phenomenon? What other veggies or algae products do they eat?

Plus you know how to get them out of the tank if need be.

Mine have never touched veggies, how odd!

While calcium intake is important for new shell growth in most snails, the assassins generally just need hardwater to preserve their shells since they are snail eaters.

cool that they are eating it though, although I find it strange!
