Leaves falling off: Myrio, tuberculatum 'Red'

Post by jweis »

I bought some Myrio, tuberculatum 'Red' from AquariumPlants.com. I had it shipped overnight and it arrived in good shape. After about 2 days all of the bottom leaves began to turn tan and fall off.

I snipped the tops that still looked OK and I am floating them.

Any advice for how I can save the plants an get them to grow?

Lots of light, don't plant them too close together and/or plant them behind something that will hide the ugly part.

You might try the local Proserpinaca palustris, which has a much more manageable growth rate and looks very similar.

I tried that once and managed to quickly kill it too. Since I gave the myrio more space it seems to be doing better. The ones I have floating are doing very well, although I don't want to leave them floating forever.

I need to do some serious editing of my plants. My tank looks like something out of a hoarder TV show. I am just so happy when something grows well and I want to try a little bit of everything. I should clean up my emersed set up (it is currently overgrown with duckweed) and then move some plants over there.

I do hope we have an auction at the upcoming tank tours mtg so I can find a good home for my trimmings and extra plants.
