Amano shrimp in rimless tank

Post by jweis »

Does anyone know if Amano shrimp will likely climb out of my 15g rimless tank. I have some algae that the CRS and RCS and nerites are not eating. I think the Amanos would eat it, but I am worried they will climb out.

I would appreciate advice.

Just putting my question out there again. Does anyone know if Amanos will jump ship in a rimless tank?

Amano's are capable of crawling out of just about any tank. So are cherries. Usually, if the water conditions are fine, they'll stay put most of the time.

I have cherries in there and they are staying put. I'll stick an Amano in there and see what happens.

Thanks.

Before I killed them amanos were busy and aggressive at feeding time in my 90g. Never saw any try to escape. I usually max at 1" below the rim.

Not to bring a dead topic back to life ....

I just found an amano about 8-feet from the tank, walking across my living room floor. Freaked me out: I've never had one climb out before, and I saw it, thought, "Holy --- What NOW?"

Worse, he had crawled through some boric acid. :-/

If any jump out of my tanks, the dog or cat would quickly get them. However, I think all of mine have stayed put.

I've heard that they will climb out on occasion and that proves it, they must get over loaded with mating thoughts and head out in search of water with the correct salinity and forget that they can't breathe air. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!

I've never had a Amano crawl out on me but a Tangerine Tiger climed onto the lid of the tank and died looking at the water, strange?
Sincerely,
Tim

It actually scared the bejebus out of me. I didn't expect to see a SHRIMP walking across my floor. :)
