Purigen?
I keep seeing this mentioned in various forums and just read the Seachem site for some info.
Anyone here use it? Recommend it?
$6 or so for a 100ml bag seems cheap enough. Is a 100ml bag sufficient for 65g of water (90g tank)? Or should I get "the bag" and some refill material as well rather than recharging it with bleach?
I think I would get two bags and swap them if I went with bleach recharging.
Thanks
Jim

I bought a mesh bag and a 250ml bottle. I'm going to put the bag in today when I do tank maintenance today.
I had forgotten to turn off a valve when I turned my flow pump off in the past. That causes the filter to pump water not only to/from my tank but in the parallel idle pump path thereby reducing its effectiveness. I did it properly last night and it helped somewhat. I suspect with the Purigen it will clean up quickly.
Thanks!

I think I screwed up
I think I screwed up...
I put the Purigen into two 4x8 bags but put them back in with the fine filter floss in the Eheim.
It was pretty jammed in there. I suspect I should have either removed the fine filter pad altogether or thinned it out now that I think about it.
Otherwise the Purigen will be too compacted to work properly.
Do you normally just remove the fine filter pad completely or replace it with a thinner one?
Thanks

I'm not familiar with layout of your filter, but I do know it needs to be in a location that water will flow freely through the purigen. When I used it I believe I got my best results putting it after the filter media like you have, because you want to floss pad to catch the big particulate.
I think your idea of thinning the floss pad makes the most sense.

The 2078 has a folded water path. The coarse filter is in a basket on top through which water percolates upward then travel via a channel to the bottom of the filter.
Water then percolates upward again finally reaching the fine filter before being pumped out. This puts the fine filter directly atop the ceramic media with the coarse filter basket resting on it.
My wife has some nice poly fiberfill that should work. I'm going to try it in a few minutes.
Thanks
