Whats eating away my java fern?

Post by theglobetrotter »

Bought the narrow leaf java fern in the last auction, the ends of the leaves were intact then, but something seems to be munching on them since the last week or two, not sure what it is. any ideas?

other plants seem to be fine.

thanks
Anil

That's what I think too. Tank specs?

20 Gallon Long, 65W lighting for 8 hrs a day, CO2 using a DIY yeast reactor. I have been using seachem flourish once a week, had to stop due to algae, but the other plants seem fine, except there is a lot of algae growing on the leaves.

Potassium deficiency perhaps? With that much light, and DIY CO2, if you're not dosing NPK, you may have a nutrient deficiency. Flourish only gets you micros, not macros.

What critters have you in the tank (not that it looks like animal damage, but I thought I'd ask)? And what temp and pH?

I have the temperature around 72-74 and PH is around 7.5.
there are a couple of nerite snails, a pair of yo-yo loaches, cory cats and 4 pairs of tetras.
forgot to mention in my earlier post, the substrate is 3/4th eco-complete and 1/4 seachem flourite.
