Clado, clado everywhere

My 65 is ripe with the stuff. I probably spend 15 minutes a day raking it out of the tank, but inevitably a small piece breaks off to colonize anew. I've tried the peroxide blast, but it doesn't seem to do much.

I don't want to rip out plants, especially my carpet. It's taken 4 months to get where it is now. And planting individual strands of lileopsis is a pain.

Any suggestions? Blackout? Clado-eating critters? Heaven forbid--algicide?

I had a 20L that was clado-ridden for years. I added 15-20 Amano shrimp back when we managed to get them for $1/piece, and the tank was cleared in days. It's been so ever since -- no other changes in chemistry, lighting, or otherwise. Those shrimp are little miracles!

I'm ordering some Amanos from msjinkzd on AquariaCentral / CCA. Rachel has them for 2 bucks a piece. And she can bring them with her to the CCA Holiday party this Saturday to pick up.

If Rachel has enough, I'm in for 10 ($20). CCA meets at the police station, correct? I may be able to stop by in person.

But before ordering, answer me this: What's the life expectancy of any shrimp in a tank with apistos? If the answer is "slim to none" then I'd better pass.

I bought about 20 amanos from Rachel a few weeks back. They're nice. We put a four or so in Amy's nano that has a marimo ball in it, which I believe is actually clado (though I'm not sure). It's a big ball (maybe 4" in diameter), and while I've seen them browsing on it, it's still there, and still the same size, LOL.

Sorry, not sure whether that's at all helpful. Rachel has nice amanos, tho.

Joe, I'm not sure erythromycin would work on clado, or most algae - I think it works on BGA because that's actually a bacteria (I could be wrong, though - my brain seems fuzzy today - maybe I have clado on the brain, LOL).

Actually, the december meeting is the holiday party, which is at Francine's house in Silver Spring.

Hmmm... I have not had luck with shrimp in my 90 that has 2 discus, 2 rams, and 2 apistos. I don't know which of them ate the shrimp, but I can't find any in that tank at all. YMMV

In my experience, Amano shrimp do just fine with Apistos. If you're really concerned, try to get the larger adults, as Amanos get much bigger than cherry shrimp. Figure 2-3" full grown, which would be a mouth full for an apisto.

I got rid of clado once by cutting back on my phosphate dosing a bit. YMMV. Think about this: The spores of that stuff are pretty much ubiquitous, yet it does not grow in all tanks. Why?
