German blue rams spawned

Post by chris_todd »

Christy, that German Blue ram pair we bought at Scales a few months back have spawned in my nano! Both a blessing and an annoyance, really, I was going to transfer them to my 20 long today, so I could break down that tank, and get started on the hardscape for the scaping competition, now I don't want to touch the tank, so the eggs can hatch and I can raise the fry! Yes, congratulations, nonetheless! You may want to move the parents, anyway. I hear that they regularly eat their own eggs.

As several people on the CCA forum pointed out, many cichlids are poor parents their first time around, and rams are notorius egg/fry eaters. The eggs were all gone the morning after my original post.

At least now I can move the rams to my 20 long, where they will likely be happier as they will have the tank all to themselves (well, and a couple dozen RCS). Perhaps they'll spawn again...
