here is a kool idea thats killing me! in my holding 10 gallon i had two 13 watt of the energy efficient light bulbs, you know, the regular ones that are starting to come out now those 13 watts were supposed to give out an equivalent to like 60 watt or something and in only a few weeks that 10 gallon was a mini jungle were i have an arrowhead, anubias afzelli, echinodorus plant, moss, najas grass, some cabombas and some other plants...
so whats killing me is, if i get three fixtures the dume stile, and three 100 watt bulbs that would and might be equivalent to about 160-200 watt ea. wouldn't that grow me some good stuff for sometime? or is there a specific need of the petshop lights?
someone that knows please let me know, thanks
**that, assuming of course that they will go into a 125 gallon**

Damien, you're comparing the lights the wrong way. When a standard CF bulb is 13 watts, and equivalent to a 60 watt bulb, that's only taking about the energy used. A 60watt incandescent bulb is terribly energy inefficient, and most of those watts go to heat. They're equivalent because they're putting out the same amount of light, just using less electricity to do so. That's good for your energy bill, but your plants could care less unless it's enough light for them to grow.
In terms of building a custom canopy for your 125 using standard 100watt bulbs, you're probably in the realm of "if you want to DIY something, you're just going to have to try it and see if it works." I have my doubts that those bulbs will penetrate the water deep enough to be able to grow foreground plants well, but again, you may just have to try it out.
