Re-Doing My 120

Post by ddavila06 »

ok, so this is not going to be a weekend proyect but now that i have the internet back i wanted to ask what you guys thought, be as honest as you can be, even if its cruel

im looking all over my friends in CL for a 150 or another 120 (with no glass division in the middle, too hard to reach the middle areas); once victory is achieved im defenitly getting rid of the multi-color gravel i have (don't ask me how i ended up with that, pleaseee :? )

Sbstrates: 2 40# bags of flora-max by caribsea, ~6 bags of eco-complete on the top and possibly black Tgrade thing that Michael gets for us if he can do that again, otherwise, small black gravel but not small like the sand.

Lighting: what would you use to light up a 5 feet tank? i do not want it to be very high light but middle instead; of course it depends on what i find online (CL)

Deco: as far as fillers go, i pretty much like what i have, some rocks, bunch of wood, etc...i guess i need to figure out how to locate them then, right? or shoot out ideas :D my basic idea right now is the large driftwood in hte middle; middle piece leaning on a "bell" deco in the right, and the rocks make like a circular wall in the left side (will post pics later:D)

Plants: this is the fun part, i want to get together a group of plants and stick to them, right now i have all sort of things randomly growing around...quite a few things died from me, others i took them back to the club before it was too late for them...im defenitly doing: anubias varterii, nanas, coffefolia?, and long leaf one :P i don't know the name; Cryps are a plus, love them and they are doing good with the low light; right now i have wentii, some others that i will try to id later  ;valisteria, the regular ones are really nice!; swords: i have red melon and some others i will try to id lated too; banana plants;i like the hygrophilia polisperma, ludwigia something "small leafed one"; What do you thing will do nice and at the same time somewhat different, shoot me some names and positions i the aquarium

Fish: i used to buy and sell all the time, kind of like to have them, see them in action a little bit and change.... now i want to limit that and so far im doing so good  we will talk about that later :D

thanks for reading 8) looking forward to the responses

What do you want to keep? I decided what to keep (fish-wise) and worked backwards.... Sounds like you're less interested in fish than plants.

Lighting: Is metal halide a possibility for you? 2 or 3 WPG at 120gallons... man I can't even count that high.

Deco: why put something dead in a place where you could grow something? :)

I started out with rocks and wood in my tank and just kept pulling it out so I had more room to plant something.

i see, since i keep quite a bit of fish including: red tail chelseus, butterfly fish, boesmani and madagascar rainbowfish, assorted angels, SAE, large pictus catfish, assorted cories, 3 other small bumblebee cats, who-knows-how-many bushy nose and clown plecos, a marble sailfin pleco, 5 or 6 banjo cats, wheater loaches, khuli loaches, and i think thats it, not a lot of top fish anymore

Ah. I think my plants provide enough cover for the rams and corys. The rams particularly tend to stay in one corner near the stand of Hygro, it sorta forms a cave. I hope I'm not being cruel

ok, so i got the 6 bags of eco complete i wanted, thanks to CL  . now anyone wants to criicize me at all? don't be shy, i need to know the truth, thanks!@ i am seriously concidering to get a 150 -6 feet- tank, i think is easier to organize it without the middle glass panels i have in the 120, also easier to get more even light...

What could be wrong with Eco-Complete? Are you going to use soil underneath? I've got a bag of organic peat moss you can use; I should have enough for an inch or two in one of those big tanks.
