Folks, one of our own has been quite sick and laid up in the hospital for a few weeks now and while the prognosis is favorable it looks like it's still going to be a few weeks before he gets home. I'm speaking of Aaron, a newish member, he's suffering from Crohn's disease. Recently Aaron had set up a 75 and it's not had any maintenance for a few weeks now. His family has been trying to keep it running but I'm sure it could stand a water change and a good trimming/makeover. Also some plants sent by others have been left to floating since Aaron has been in the hospital since they arrived. So what's the point you say? Instead of trucking all the way to North County to my place, what say we descend upon Aarons, do an “Extreme Tank Makeover”, and get that thing whipped back into shape? The home is located in Dayton, MD a little north of Columbia right off Rt. 32. I realize this is very short notice. Please let me know if this is viable and I'll make sure we have directions. Figure 1pm on Sat, bring your pythons, buckets, planting tools and cameras and we'll collectively prepare the tank for Aaron's return. Afterwards we could caravan to AC, it's not that far away.

Looking forward to your replies,

Sounds like a nice plan. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0">

I assume you've spoken with Aaron's folks. They're ok with several of our kind invading their home?

I was up at his place about a month ago. He has several tanks and a barrel-o-fish outside.

While I have not spoken directly to Aarons folks I have been chatting with him in irc. I posed the idea a few days back and he did check with them and they are fine with it, in fact he said they were touched that we would do such a thing. I've also taken the liberty of placing a post on APC for donations of plants and extra auto feeders/dosers. I figure what ever we can't use in his tanks we can auction off and pass the proceeds to Aaron to help him keep the tanks running once he gets back home. I'd imagine he can use the help as he hasn't been able to work for a while and will not be working for a bit once he does get home.

I think I have some spare plants. I hear those snickers, <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> I just planted my 75 so I don't have as many as you think. But I believe I can pick up what ever slack GG leaves.   <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0"> (pun intended)

A HUGE thank you to all of you who have responded to gnat's post here. Especially to him for conceiving this idea in the first place.

The usual GWAPA meeting time should be fine so long as that works for everyone else? Directions to my home are as follows:

From N. Virginia

Take 95 North to 32 towards Columbia
Once you pass under Route 108 on 32 you'll come to a series of lights. Make a left at the second light (can only go left) onto West Linden Church Road.
Make a right onto Ten Oaks Road

Coming from Baltimore:

Take 695 to 70 West
Take 70 West to 32 towards Clarksville (left)
Take 32 for about 5-6 miles and make a right onto West Linden Church Road at the light (only can go right)
Make a right onto Ten Oaks Road.

Follow Ten Oaks Road about 1/4 mile and my house is on the left. It's a two-story home, cream colored w/ red shutters.

4924 Ten Oaks Road
Dayton, MD 21036
410-531-3491 ask for Tom or Nancy (my parents)

Again, I can't begin to express my gratitude to all of you guys <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> There's a slight chance I may be home by saturday, but I'll still be in no condition to take care of my tanks.
