Don't use Ironite, a lawsuit has been started against the company about the heavy metals in the product. The make up of Ironite can be found here. It contains many potentially hazardous metals. I am no longer using or recommending it's use in aquarium substrates.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

Could this be why all of your plants have those huge mutated, healthy looking roots and leaves? I mean, everyone knows that normal soil substrates aren't good for aquarium use!

No, I'm gonna just leave the tanks as I didn't use a huge amount of the stuff, but I can't in good conscious recommend it to anyone else as I can't control how much they use. Especially since I was the one advocating it's use.

Thanks Kris, but when I read that analysis I realized there is nothing funny about the contents of Ironite. It might be that the clay saved me from disaster by adsorbing a portion of the nasty stuff. I don't think I want to risk anyone else's health or well being on a flimsy possibility. I'm really angry about this by the way, I would never have used Ironite in a tank if I had known about the heavy metals it contains. I'm glad I never used it on a vegetable garden!
