Eastern Mudminnow

Here's an adult Eastern Mudminnow. They are a neat little fish, almost like a cross between a pickerel and a bowfin. They can gulp air from the surface.

do they color up during breeding?

hey didnt know if they got some green or anything, I wasnt figuring they turned into a neon medley of colors or anything.

I like the fish..

I think they can be tough to breed in captivity as they need to have a serious cooling down period, at least down into the 40's. I tried to argue with my girlfriend that we should not heat out place this winter, but no luck :lol:

They spawn around here in early spring, they even seem to do a little spawning run, traveling upstream into tiny creeks to breed.
