Red Cherry Shrimp

Post by maddog10 »

Got this shrimp at the CCA meeting yesterday. What the photo doesn't show is that she already has eggs.
It is in the 20High that I set up with the plants from the group order (some look like they will make it).

Still trying to learn how to use my new camera (pretty steep learning curve)

Pic is great. Doesn't look like you are having any trouble.

Okay stupid question time: How can you tell if they have eggs? I got four tiny ones from Wally's and they've grown a lot, but I haven't noticed any eggs.... But I wouldn't know what to look for either. :?

Sherry the 4 you got from Wallys were most likely all Males. I looked at them too, (Im debating working part time there) but to tell if they are females look for really red (males are usually lighter in color). To tell if they are berried look for yellow dots under the tail, the females will have these and will constantly be cleaning and aerating them with their tail/ rear legs.

Yep, what Jeff said. If they have eggs you will know - hard to miss. I will try again tonight to get a shot that shows the eggs (didn't give me an opportunity last night).
