Dying nerites

Post by Jeff120 »

My nerites are dropping like flies, manly in my Aqusoil tank. Their shells are eroding pretty fast. Im guessing from the low PH, KH, and hardness

Im an attempt to save them I took a few out and put some super glue on the spots that looked bad. I think I killed one, not sure why. I have heard of some using reef epoxy on the shells. My next try was going to be clear nail polish, not sure that would be good in the tank.

Dont want to add any Ca due to the soft water plants, I have killed a few adding it before. It seems to help the snails in another tank though.
So any other suggestions?

Use the putty epoxy. Home depot carries it.

New theory, they are sensitive to Excel.

Doing a water change this weekend, had some algae on the silicon in the corner, spot treated it with excel, nerite snail directly below the spot I dosed. It fell off the glass to the bottom and has been there for days.

Coincidence?

Someone in the club needs to start breeding these! Michael you have a massive fish room setup a brackish tank and breed these out to be my constant supplier!

Hmmm.....

I do have everything I need to set one up. Never kept a brackish tank, let me do some research on SG and what not.

Any place you could direct me to on breeding and raising nerites.
