Dave,
Answer to question 1: The stand is an old piece of Scan furniture and the filter won't fit underneath (the whole thing's only 22" off the floor)
Answer to question 2: I originally didn't trim the hoses because I plan on eventually replacing above mentioned stand with something studier, with an open back, and higher off the ground. I trimmed the hoses by about a foot on Saturday.
Aaron,
Won't vasoline eventually make the hoses brittle?

It probably wasnt vaseline.
Usually the packets that are included are a silicon based grease.
If you rinse well, I have heard of more then 1 person using PAM as an alternative, personally I would rather heat it up and slip it on instead.

Took the thing completely apart last night. The o-ring on the bottom of the housing was broken, so I'll need to replace that. Also, I took the housing apart to find it filled with water. From what I read at the Rena faq, that's also due to faulty o-rings on the disconnect. However, these appeared to be in fine shape.
Is there anything else that I might be overlooking?
For now, I'm back to the 2213 and Whisper 2 combo.

Housing is supposed to fill with water. I mean... it is a pump, mine all always have water in them
What FAQ are you reading that said that? Can't find any reference to it on their official site, nor on the parts service site.
The only reference to quick connect o-rings I've ever seen had to do with leaking at the power cord, nothing to do with cavitation...
