Lighting for a 125

Post by neilanh »

Lots of lighting threads already, I know, but haven't found the answer I want.

I've recently picked up a 125g tank (72x18x20). I'm debating what I want to do with it. Originally considered SW reef, but thinking that might be a bit large and expensive for my first venture. So, I'm considering combining my current tanks into this and planting it.

So, I'm trying to look at lighting options. I know TEK T5HO seems to be the rave these days, but haven't found a 72" fixture. Current has one, a NOVA extreme, 12x39 (468W total).

There's always the CF option too (6x96 maybe?). And MH of course, but the purpose of not going SW was to save some expense.

Any recommendations? I'd consider building a canopy and doing a retrofit I guess, since I'm going to have to build a stand for it anyway.

I did two 3' fixtures for my 180g - 12x39 from a TEK is a LOT of light for a 125. It is a pretty good aount for the 180g.

When I was askig around, I was told that 8x39 from TEK would be enough light for all but the light neediest stems and perhaps some high light foreground plants.
