Freaky bug ???

Post by Cristy Keister »

Came home from the meeting to find a big freaky looking insect in my 75. It's about .5", black with tan legs and tan band around the middle, big eyes. My first thought was dragonfly or damsel fly, but a google search did not come up with similar images. I've never had an insect this big living in any of my aquariums. I think it wants to bite me!

Dragonfly larva. Damsefly larva are skinny thin things, but some dragonflies have larva that sounds like what you are saying.

All dragonflies.

Ok, they all look very different. Mine looks more like the first. I wonder if I'll find any others? The nymph stage can be up to 4 years, so it probably came in on a plant and has been growing in there ever since. I bet it's been feeding on flag fish fry. I really hope I can find this thing again and get rid of it!
