Suitland Maryland Bog Tour Sign Up

Post by Aaron »

Hey Everyone. Kris and I have been planning to take the scheduled tour of the Suitland Bog in, you guessed it, Suitland, Maryland on Saturday September 1st. The tour runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is one of the few opportunities a year to be able to see the flora of the bog as it's only accessible by guided tour.

Anyone else who's interested in going please post here by midnight this coming Saturday so I can give the park ranger an estimate on the head count. There's no cost associated with the tour. :)

Here's the website so you can check it out.

And another site with good pics:

Some notable native plants we'll get to see are Eriocaulon decangulare and Sarracenia purpurea (a native pitcher plant).

Ditto. I normally jump at this kinda thing, but it's a rare 4-day weekend for me and we might be going to the White Mountains for some hiking.

Cheers.

I can't wait! I'll definitely be bringing my camera for those who don't go. :-) Looking at the bog on Google maps, I wonder how much longer this place will be preserved. There's development completely surrounding the bog. I'm sure that will be a topic of conversation with the rangers.

Me
Melissa

If we end up having a few more or less than 6 they said it's fine. They just want an estimate of people coming. If you do plan to come they recommend comfy shoes and long pants (I'm guessing because of bugs).
