Metal Halide Bulbs

Post by Spine »

My 10k 175w Metal halide bulbs have burnt out. My tank is a 48x24x24in. 120 gal. I have mostly Swords and Lace with some stem plants . Any suggestions on the Kelvin number or brand of replacement bulbs?

Thanks,
Kevin

Ghazanfar,
Would it be overkill if I moved up to 250 watt bulbs?

Depends on what you're trying to grow - but if you upgrade to 2 x 250Watt,
you'll need to use CO2.

Thanks Ghazanfar,
I already have CO2 so I'm set. I found some cheap ballast ($25)for the IWASAKI 6500K 250w bulbs do you think its worth paying extra ($108)for eletronic ballast.

I'm running magnetic ballasts on my reef since they overdrive the bulbs a little.
I am running electronic ballasts on my planted tank - three bulbs on there
though so any electricity i can save is helpful.

Ghazanfar,
I forgot to ask you what brand is your electronic ballast and are you running a M80 or H37 on the magnetic one.

The electronics I'm running are 2 x Iceaps + 1 x ARO (Hellolights) - all of them
work well. The magnetic ballast is a PFO 400W - don't know which one it is in
there.
