CO2 Regulator, good price?

Post by krisw »

I'm looking to finally get a good system in place to distribute CO2 to 3-4 tanks in my office from a single CO2. I've contacted Rex Grigg for a price quote, and I was wondering if this looks like a good price to you:

This is what I'd get:
Controlled regulator (with solenoid)
Low Pressure Regulator
12 port manifold configured to run in-line
3 total needle valves
3 check valves
15' of tubing

He's asking $225 shipped. I think that sounds okay, but I'm wondering if I can do better. Keep in mind that his parts are clippard, so they should last.

What does he charge for just the regulator by itself? I think you can get one cheaper.

Hmm... I just looked on aquatic-store.com, and I like their manifold with bubble counters better than Rex's.

For the 3-way, regular+solenoid, plus 15' of tubing it's $196 shipped. The only thing I'd want is a low-pressure regulator, which I could probably get straight from clippard for $15, but I'm not sure if it would hook up correctly to the 3-way splitter, keeping the bubble counters upright. Does anyone have any experience with these things? Or, do I need the low-pressure regulator anyways because if the tank dumps, it'll be split between 3 tanks, minimizing the impact on any individual one?

I'm currently using that regulater. I'm pretty certain that the safety release valve does the same thing as that low pressure regulator that Rex uses. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's a bit cheaper, but it doesn't have the solenoid, right?

I thought the safety release was if the pressure was too high for the regulator to stand, it would blow off pressure, instead of blowing up the regulator. Of course, I know virtually nothing about these things.

Yeah, I'm not sure. Either way, it's a good thing to have probably.

I don't know about the 3-way splitter, but I did have the 6-way splitter
at a point in time. It hooks up the the CO2 regulator using the
standard CO2 tubing. To keep it upright, you'd have to come up
with some kind of mount for it. Should be pretty straight forward to
do that though.

BTW - I'm using the milwaukee regulator - haven't noticed any end of
tank dumps. The JBJ however, I think has that problem.

Kris,

FYI this stuff is also available from Clippard directly or from a local Clippard dealer. I know Kevin found one somewhere near his home. For example, the LPR that Rex sells for $20.00 + shipping is $12.43 + shipping: http://www.clippard.com/store/display_d ... sku=MAR-1P
