Going to Japan
Going to Japan
I am going to Japan in a few weeks . Going to try and check out aquatic plants while I am visiting. If anyone has something they would like me to keep my eye out for, let me know. Or any suggestions on some good aquatic places you may know of.
I will be mostly be in Kofu city which is in the Yamanashi prefecture. If you are not sure where that is, it is west of Tokyo. It is awesome out there! I can see Mt. Fuji from my wife's house. I would like to go to the ADA gallery but I am not sure where it is. I will do more research. I also e-mailed an Aquatic store in Tokyo and they should send me some info on where I can shop for plants. I will look for your plant.
Do you think I will have trouble getting the plants back into the country?

Niigata is easy to get to via the train, but unfortunately the train does not go near the gallery.
There is a pet shop in Sinjiku or Shinbashi station called Aqua Forest. It is the most amazing aquarium shop you have ever seen. Multiple multiple planted tanks. Tons of different species of plants and many of them rare. All the ADA merchandise you would want. I don't think it is any cheaper in Japan, but I found some on sale and got it much better than I could here. Also you will find very similar and equally high quality products as ADA but much much cheaper. It is more than worth a visit and it's in one of Tokyo;s main stations, so very easy to get to. I was more impressed with the tanks in this shop than most of the ones at ADA. It's just ADA has so many.
Here is a pic of one of the tanks at that shop
Here is a LINKto more pics of that shop and another in Tokyo. Make sure you notice there is a second page.
If you are trying to get plant to the US. I would mail them. You don't want to be caught in customs with them.

Hey everyone, this is the Aquatic store I will be visiting while in Japan, this is the link to the page where you can view which plants they have. If there is one that you think is rare and might want let me know. It is all in Japanese so you will have to use your best judgment on what kind of plant it is from the pics. You can also try to translate the page in http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ If you do decide you want me to pick up something for you I will be mailing the items back to me so the cost will be plus an equal share of shipping.

Man that's tough going, I've ferreted out a lot of plant names in Japanese from Aquajournals but not the 'common' names. The website just doesn't have enough pictures for me to help anyone. Put a question mark after most all of these.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.
If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!
I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up!
