Bladderwort aka Aquarium VD
Has anyone tried a blackout to kill bladderwort? Seems to me that larger aquarium plants might have the food stores to survive a blackout like they do when you are trying to kill green water, however bladderwort might not make it.

I did the tweezer thing for awhile and pretty much had it licked. I would only find some every few weeks. And then I had a family illness and was gone from home about 2 months. I came back to more bladderwort than there were plants. At that point, tweezers are a waste of time. I could pull it out by the handfulls.

Cheryl R on the AGA forum said she 'salted' it to death once. I had it in my 14 gallon tank, but it seems to have dissappeared since I got the LED lights. I wish I could say why.

I've read that tetras are salt sensitive, so you'll want to move them out if you take this approach. Guppies can be very slowly acclimated to salt. I don't know about Rainbows. Come to think of it, your plants might not appreciate a lot of salt for a prolonged amount of time, either. Seems like it would be easier to rip everything out and start over!

Everything is ripped out except the fish. Driftwood is on the back porch. I know there are lingering bits of bladderwort in the tank and also in the plants I have saved to put back in it.
I have the plants in a bucket. Maybe if I just treated them, and gave the tank a good going over, that might work.

Most rainbowfish can tolerate up to 17ppm salt. Many of them are often found in brackish conditions moving from one area to another.Cristy Keister wrote:I've read that tetras are salt sensitive, so you'll want to move them out if you take this approach.
