Hi Guys,
Aaron has granted me the pleasure of announcing GWAPA's first aquascaping contest. This contest is only available to GWAPA members, and all equipment neccessary, will be provided for a small registration fee of $20.
The tanks will be 2.5 gallon AGA tanks. Aaron has negotiated a great deal with an online vendor to acquire 2x13Watt lights for nearly half price. For substrate, we will be using 3M quartz sand.
The idea behind this contest is to have a friendly competition between members, with tanks small enough that we can all bring them to a meeting to be judged. The contest will end sometime in the late summer/early fall. Additionally, tanks will be able to be used as visual aides at some of the workshops GWAPA will be doing this year.
Contestants will be able to register as beginners or advanced aquarists. We will be giving away top prizes to the winner of each category. A 2nd place prize will also be awarded in each category.

Thanks Kris! I should have my computer at home up and running again soon. We're doing some rearranging in the apartment right now. I had to bring over the 50 gallon tank. 
Please use your best judgement when deciding if you are a beginner or advanced entrant. If you've never aquascaped anything before or entered a contest, chances are you are a beginner. If you have a good grip on growing most any plant well then you are likely advanced.

This is a GREAT idea. I'm having a tough time deciding if I'm beginner or advanced. I've been doing this for less than a year, but I think I'm pretty solid on the basics at this point... I have never really tried to aquascape with a preconception, though.

We don't have a specific criteria for beginner or advanced. Basically, if you've entered an aquascaping contest before, you probably want to enroll as advanced. If you haven't, you're probably best at beginner. Of course, if you feel your aquascapes can compete with some of the ones entered in other aquascaping contests, feel free to enter as advanced. See, it's not so cut and dry. As Aaron stated above, just try to use your best judgement.
