Who is planning new aquatic set ups this coming year, what 'scapes are you contemplating, plants (or fish) are you hoping to "acquire", etc. Anyone want to predict what will be this year’s Pellia, maybe the famous "Congo purple rotalwigia" ?
"したくさ" Sean
Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.
If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!
I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up!

This year's projects are more livestock than plant - expanding the shrimp-breeding efforts from one to maybe about four tanks, attemps at breeding Nerites are likely as well, breaking down some tired experimental tanks (discontinuing most of the FW plenums, replacement experiments still undecided but maybe another RFUG planted or two in the batch).
There are a couple of other "tired" tanks that need major renovation, but that is really on-going work and not a new project.
Probably the least attractive (to me) project is learning to handle the digital camera. I'm spoiled to having my wife do the photos. Rebellion is in the air, so I might as well learn.<edited><editID>RTRJR</editID><editDate>37989.7019675926</editDate></edited>

"This year's projects"? That kind of planning is beyond me. Maybe this week's or this month's...A definate project that is almost completed is converting my 75 from a medium-light, DIY CO2, "find-a-spot-and-plant-it", "how many species can I attempt to grow but end up killing" tank, to a hi-tech,thought out aquascape. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0"> I also want to 'scape the other sized tanks I have, including a 2.5 gal. my low-light, easy growing planted tanks which i use for breeding will also be somewhat re-arranged as well. Still thinking about my hex <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley19.gif" border="0">
everything planned wouldn't even be considered if it wasn't for the ideas and help of the club.

LOL! If I did not have "projects" as future projections to hold my interest, I'd burn out and shut down most of the tanks. If I am not challenged, I'm bored; if I'm bored, I neglect; after a period of neglect, I shut down. The period of time leading up to the end of the year is a convenient handle to hang evaluations on, and a soft deadline for "if I terminate that trial and those tests, then I would have free tanks and could play with x and y, and perhaps z".

lemme see... GET A JOB!!! Then establish:
A. 1 - 10 - 20 gal rfug river tank for breeding Hillstream loaches
B. 2 50-65 gal in living room (1 South American, 1 Far east biotope)
C. 1 75-90 in basement for plant farm
D. 5 new 10 gallons for breeding shelves in basement
E. replace 20L & 29 with 30L & 38 in dinig room (20L to become GG's aquascape, 38 for home for brackish water fishes - guppies & rainbows)
F. Expand pond from 20 gal to 120 gal
G. Build a second fish shelves unit in basement.

Projects for me this year (hopefully within the first month):
1 - Replace 110 gallon tall tank with 120 short tank (planting is so much easier when you can actually reach the gravel).
2 - Set up a multiple tank "plant-farm" in the basement... several 5 gallon tanks on one filter system, one light system and one CO2 system. How? Not totally sure... yet.

Sure would be nice to be able to keep those plants that you really like, but don't have room for right now. Those "farms" sound like a great way to hold onto stuff that you don't want to get rid of, and new plants that you don't know where they're gonna live yet....
Nevermind the AquaBid possibilities <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">
Good idea actually...
My New Year's project is to try out some of these new- fangled substrates. Especially, Eco-Complete, Florabase, and Volcanit. I start with Eco-Complete in a couple of days... LFS in DE here has a good price on it.
Anyone in GWAPA try out Volcanit yet?
Best wishes,
John Wheeler
