Method of dispersing C02

Post by Larry Grenier »

I kknow I'm not the 1st to do this. I'm feeding my DIY C03 into the input of a Maxi Jet 1200. The MJ1200 chopps the bubble into tiny micro bubbles. Seems to work fine. You can hear a little pop as the bubble enters and then a little cloud of bubbles. Any harm to the MJ? Other comments?

Larry, That's an excellent way of dispersing CO2. CO2 disolves very readily into water and the powerhead will help keep the flow consistent so all the plants get some CO2.

I've heard that those powerheads can overheat if you expose the impeller to acidic conditions similar to those caused by carbonic acid.

Just kidding, that should work just fine Larry, just point the powerhead down(ish) so the bubbles have further to rise and increase their contact time.

Actually I was wondering if the C02 or the constant temporary cavitation might be bad for the MJ. I have several so if it breaks down I'll report it here. The bubbles come out so tiny that they rise very slowly and yes the output is pointed downish. Thanks for your input.
