I purchased the plant "alternanthera reineckii roseafolia" I see new growth but I see the old and the new leaves are melting as seen in the photo.
I hope the photo is clear.
Looking for recommendation so I can keep this plan in my tank.
I have 35ppm of CO2 and adding Seachem Iron.
Let me know you recommendations.

Its 72 Watts of LED lighting for 40 Breeder. The baby tears planted next to this plant are doing good.
Re: leafs melting for alternanthera reineckii roseafolia
Not a lot of information to go on. I've never known of a 72 watt LED light fixture that would be used over a tank this size. You do not mention how much iron is being dosed or anything else about your dosing or the water that might be useful. The type of filter and the amount of water flow from other sources like powerheads would also be nice to know.
How do you know your CO2 is at 35ppm and what CO2 equipment do you use, reactor, diffusers, etc.?

Sorry that I was missing the additional information.
I am using a
1. Atomic CO2 Diffuser from greenleafaquariums.com - 50mm
2. When I say 72 watts of LED, what I mean is I have a custom build light (3 watt Star LED and a total of 32 LED's).
3. For my 40 gallon breeder, I add 5 ml of iron every week after a 50% water change.
4. For water circulation, I have
a) SunSun HW-302 3-Stage External Canister Filter, 264 GPH
I am using CARBON + CERAMIC RING+ BIO BALL in this 3 stage canister filter.
b) Aqueon Circulation Aquarium Pumps 500 gph
5. I start my CO2 1.5 hours before the light starts.
6. The light is on for 7 hours.
7. I just checked the KH PH and compared with the CO2 table.
KH 8
PH 7.2
So based on the table CO2 is 15.1
8. The tank is 1.5 months since I started.
Let me know what changes should I attempt.

Sorry for all of the questions. I forgot to ask about your soil and what types, if any, of algae your seeing. I know there are a lot of questions but we can all learn something this way. I hope you don't mind if I ask for a picture of the whole tank.
What stands out to me immediately, is your KH and CO2. I'm hoping Viktor will take it from here. He has more experience and I'm south of Tucson, on vacation.

What are you doing for NPK and trace?

With added CO2, you should see at least a 1 degree drop in pH. Take a sample of water from your tank and let it sit for 24hrs to allow the CO2 to reach ambient levels (about 2-3ppm). From that pH reading you should have a drop in pH of 1 to 1.2 degrees within the first hour after the CO2 comes on, irregardless of your KH.Nikhilsk99 wrote:Sorry that I was missing the additional information.

NPK and trace nutrient demand need to be provided, either from dosing fertilizers or nutrient rich soil. Some algae are often a good indicator of nutrient deficiency and may provide another clue as to what is going on. I think a better look at the baby tears and the whole tank might also be helpful.

Re: leafs melting for alternanthera reineckii roseafolia
Thanks guys for your assistance.
I have Eco-Complete substrate.
And looking at my dwarf baby tears (HC), Yes there is a hair like alge problem.
Picture of the whole tank attached.
Dosing for NPK
==============
Flourish Comprehensive : 4 ml 2 times a week
Macro Micro Nutrient Mix from aquariumfertilizer.com : 2 ml every other day.
That I recently purchased a 3 stage canister filter, I have a 1 LB of Activated Carbon.
So I was reading online that
"Large organic molecules cling to the carbon, and they are not released back into the water. Plant fertilizers are large molecule components, and will be removed by Granular Activated Carbon. This is NOT a desired result.
So is the 1st change that I have done this weekend is to remove the 1 LB of activated carbon from my Canister Fliter.
Is that the correct move ? or I need to focus on my dosing of NPK ?
