plant name - Utric greanifola

Post by jweis »

I bought a plant from Jeff U. at the auction this past weekend. The bag says "Utric Greanifola". Should it be Utricularia graminifolia?

Whatever it is it was a real bugger to plant. Finally I just held it down while I sprinkled AS on it until it stayed put. It is a very pretty pale lime green and it it survives my planting technique, it will be a nice addition to my 11g.

Yes, probably U. graminifolia.

It's a pain in the aquasoil to plant. Very nice, grass like plant that'll form a good carpet with good water, soft, acid.

Thanks. I think I will need to place a few small pebbles on top of it to keep it down. The shrimp keep picking at it and wants to float.

It has pretty strong roots, once it gets established.

Usually, when I plant it, I kill 95% of it by smother and bashing it into the substrate. Then 5% of it grows and picks up the slack.

Then I kill it. :-D Try to skip that last step!

Try using hairpins to anchor it into the substrate.

You have the right name, I never did well in handwritting.

I bury about 80% of the plant and just let the top stick out. Takes a good while to get going but once it takes off its hard to stop!

Thanks Jeff. Sounds like my intuition to just pour AS over it was the right thing to do. I do think it will look nice once it gets established. I am glad you bought it to the auction. My shrimp sure do like it.

I think this guy uses Fluval Stratum in his tanks but the results for the UG are really nice.
