Staurogyne repens trouble
Staurogyne repens trouble
Any one else have trouble growing Staurogyne repens in aquasoil? I grow it fine in sand but I get real slow growth and leaves dying back in aquasoil.
Re: Staurogyne repens trouble
How old is the Aquasoil?
Re: Staurogyne repens trouble
2 or 3 months
Re: Staurogyne repens trouble
I have had it growing in AS for almost a year. It does very well and I regularly trim the tips and bring it for sale at the GWAPA auctions.GOT MTS? wrote:Any one else have trouble growing Staurogyne repens in aquasoil? Are you dosing as if you had just a flourite? Your Aquasoil is likely out of nutrientsGOT MTS? wrote:2 or 3 months

??? After 2-3 months AS is out of nutrients? I thought it was good for a year or so.krisw wrote:Are you dosing as if you had just a flourite? Your Aquasoil is likely out of nutrientsGOT MTS? wrote:2 or 3 months
My staurogyn repens is doing fine with just dosing Pfertz and no root tabs.

Re: Staurogyne repens trouble
Obviously depends on plant load, light/co2, water change frequency, etc. In general, after 6 weeks I see a decline in growth due to K and trace deficiency. Then, at some point I notice green spot and start dosing P. Then, I'm dosing everything before long. Usually by 3 months. Of course, follow what your plants are telling you. If they're growing, don't mess with a working system.jweis wrote:??? After 2-3 months AS is out of nutrients? Oh, I have always dosed P, K, N and micros. I just don't add the root tabs for my AS tank.

Ah, gotcha. Sounds like we've got the same routine then.jweis wrote:Oh, I have always dosed P, K, N and micros. I just don't add the root tabs for my AS tank.
Sorry to hijack the thread! Nick, sounds like you just might need to up your dosing a bit in your AS tank. The only time I've had trouble with Staurogyne repens in an AS tank was in a brand new setup where I think the initial pH/kH drop and Ammonia spike gave it problems.
Re: Staurogyne repens trouble
I've been dosing EI method with dry salts. I have some in a tank with sand and it's doing great. I just asked because I thought others may have had trouble with aquasoil.
