Heater advise needed

Post by DelawareJim »

I'm currently running a pair of Ebo-Jaeger 250-watt heaters in my 110. I've noticed over the weekend that the temp has dropped from 76 - 78'F to 70' with them on 24/7. I've dropped a 200-watt E-J in the tank but it's all they can do to keep a decent temp above ambient room temps of 68' day and 60' night. I think after 20 years they're finally giving up.

So, long storey short, I'm thinking of switching to in-line heating and getting rid of some of the clutter. I'm running a pair of Eheim 2217 filters with an in-line CO2 reactor on the intake line of one. What make, model, an wattage of heater or heaters would you large tank owners suggest? I was on Reef Central researching what the big dawgs are running and I'm not sure I want to go the digital controller with multi-probe, minimum-maximum data logger, computer to heat the tank. It's a bit over the top.

Thanks.
Cheers.

I use the Hydor inline heaters on four of my tanks and have had zero problems. My biggest tank is only 75g though, and all my tanks are in one room, so the temperature never drops too much. Neii vertheless, they should go perfectly with your Eheims!

I don't have a huge tank, but I also use the Hydor inline heaters and I have not had any problems (except when I unplug them and forget to plug them back in, or bump the dial -- now I tape the dials).

I use 2 Hydor 300 watt inline heaters with 2 Eheim 2217 cainsters, my temps are rock solid and I never hear a sound from the on/off cycle, I did have to reduce the tubing size.

The dials are easy to bump and move without realizing you did.
Sincerely,
Tim
