Staghorn troubles

Post by sns26 »

I'm suddenly fighting a serious staghorn breakout. It's grey, branchy threads that are all over my java fern. At the meeting, Kris and Ghazanfar both said "low macronutrients," but I'm dosing a lot of macros using an EI scheme. Until recently, I'd been doing this:

1/2 tsp KN03 3x a week
1/8 tsp KH2P04 3x a week

After the meeting, when people told me that green spot is due to low phosphate, I doubled the phosphate dose. I just tested, and I have 5-10 ppm nitrate, and 1-2 ppm phosphate. (I can't read the darn Red Sea color scales much better than that.)

Do I just wait it out now and hope this stuff disappears?

Water change and patience, this is one that will go away by itself when the tank gets a little older. Keep removing what ever you see, but don't worry about it.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)
