Awesome! Thanks Sam for helping to get the ball rolling! I love it when a plan comes together.
Would people be interested in moving the auction off site from NZ to possibility Z Burgers? It's only like one of the best burger and shakes place in DC in my opinion

We could do that...but like I said, we could also very easily do it at my house, which is very close to the zoo. As in, "I just took my daughter to see the zebras when we went out for a walk."
Arlene and others - what day would we prefer? Our normal date would be Saturday January 28, right? If that doesn't work, are we open to Sunday the 29th or Saturday the 21st?
I'm just about to pull the trigger on reserving the room in Amazonia for January 28 from 1-4 pm. I've attached the contract they sent us, and I've highlighted a couple of things you might want to look at. To seal the deal, we have to send a $250 "donation" to the Zoo. The contract entertainingly denies the existence of any quid pro quo; it merely says that it is a "tradition" that we co-sponsor an event at the Zoo to "celebrate" our "gift."
I want to note two things:
(1) As we've already discussed, it's not clear that we could do an auction/swap at the zoo itself. We might, we might not. My sense is that we want to do the event anyway. Again, I'm happy to host the auction at my house, which is about 5 minutes from the zoo.
(2) I don't yet have any guarantee that we'll get a behind-the-scenes tour on the 28th. We have to work that out separately. Arlene, has your contact said that he can do it on the 28th?
(3) There is some wiggle room in the scheduling--the contract allows us to reschedule up to 10 days before the event. So I think we should just sign on the dotted line and send them a check.
It sounds good to me, except the auction part but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me anyway. If we get a close up of your tanks and handy work that's just a bonus but it may stretch out then lenth of the meeting, and again no problem here.
If we had the room from 1 to 4 pm would be come early for the auction or stay late?
