Re: Why don't we meet at the National Zoo?
What I fantastic idea! I wonder if we could also look into doing something similar for the National Arboretum?

Re: Why don't we meet at the National Zoo?
Our meeting for January is on the 28th, but we could see if the club is flexible. When I talked to Dan, he did say that the 28th was available. He'd like to know before the end of December, but I told him that I would bring up the idea at the holiday party on Sunday, and if most people were on board, then I would let him know next week.

So, how big are these rooms? Big enough to bring family's? This is def a great idea.

Do you know if your contact can get us a behind the scenes tour of the Invertebrate and Reptile Houses too?

I don't know if we'll have enough room for families for the talk. The room can probably hold at most 30 people and that might be a little on the cramped side. There is a really big table in the middle of the room and on one side of the room is a floor to ceiling/wall to wall cabinets. And we'll also need room for people to walk through to get food.
However, I'm sure that there is more than enough room for the tour, especially if we split the group into two. Family might be able to roam around the zoo while the talks are happening

Perhaps we could use tickets as money and settle up later. It would be like you purchase tickets before hand and settle at the next meeting or via paypal. Just a thought.

I've been wanting to go and haven't for years but I have seen the Bonsai Exhibit on TV and it's beautiful. They have a 375 year old Bonsai tree that survived the bomb at Hiroshima along with the family that owned it and they were only 2 miles away from the bombs impact site, it was given to the US in 1976 for our bi-centennial and is a prized symbol of peace, I have most likely seen the tree and had not idea what I was looking at, anyway both the Zoo and Arboretum would be great place to visit.
Not the tree but just a teaser
Sincerely,

We can buy dollar poker chips before hand, so there will be no cash.

I will try to drop by Amazonia tomorrow and take some pictures of the room so we can decide whether it is big enough.
