September Meeting Thread

Post by jweis »

I'm looking forward to hosting the Sept meeting at my house. I plan to make green chili burritos with freshly cooked tortillas and homemade salsa (both hot and mild varieties). I'd be interested in getting a head count for food prep purposes, so please let me know if you plan on attending.

There is another thread going under the Group Buy section for inverts and fish offered by Rachel O’Leary of Msjinkzd.com. Rachel will also be giving a talk about inverts.

Also, I had a thought of printing out everyone's Avatar and having them use it as a name tag (can you tell I have young children and regularly throw birthday parties?!). Of course, I wouldn't force anyone to wear their Avatar, but I thought it might be fun. So, if you don't have an Avatar add one to your profile.

Hope to see you on the 24th!

Also, just wanted to let everyone know that we will be bringing back the monthly raffles. Companies are starting to donate stuff, and within the last month, I've been piling up boxes in my dining room!

So I will be bringing quite a few items for the raffle.

Also, will children be allowed at this meeting? I might be bringing my two little boys because my husband will be out of town the weekend on a dirt biking/camping trip in WV. If I can't get a babysitter, then the two will be coming with me.

As far as food goes, I'll try to see if I can whip up a Mexican dessert.

Children are definitely welcome! My house is kid proof. If it is a nice day I have a big playset and plenty of room for them to have a ball outside. If it is inside, my kids have taken over the dining room as their art room and there are plenty of art activities and a closet full of toys.

I may have to sit this one out if I can't get a pet sitter for sick, 15 year-old golden retriever. I can probably run my fish out and leave them for auction but can't stay the distance.

Is that workable?

Jim, we'll take whatever we can get! Even if you can only stay for a short while.

Of course take care of your dog if you can't find a sitter. You know you are always welcome at my house for a little bit or longer.

I'm new here but plan on attending the metting if the weather is fair, I would like to ride my motorcycle to keep the cost down with cash being tight and I'm going to need it for inverts & plants. So you can put me down as one to attend.

I'll bring salt for the leaches!!!!
Sincerely,
Tim

Funny you should bring that up. I was thinking about setting up a plant dip area so everyone could de-pest their purchases. I am certain I got my leeches from some GWAPA plants so I know I am not the only one who might have a leech hitch hiker on their plants. My leeches seem to only bother mystery snails, which is a bummer since mystery snails are what my kids liked the most.

I have read about Potassium Permanganate Dips or Bleach (Chlorine) Dips. Any preference?
