Name that plant

Post by fjf888 »

I think I bought Alternanthera reineckii at the aquarium store, but it wasn't marked as such. Just wanted to confirm

Thanks

Ludwigia glandulosa. Easiest way to tell is the alternate leaves; A. reineckii has opposite.

Thanks. It was called scarlet or violet hygro in the store. This one might be a good candidate for emersed growth.

What you see is emersed growth. Looks much different once it goes submersed.

Anything I can do to help it along from its transition it from emersed to submersed state? It looks really red/purple in submersed form, I'd like not to kill it. It is going into a tank with 2x54 t5-ho lights with CO2. I got emersed gold nesea and that bit the dust relatively quickly.

I'll stick a couple stems in my emersed 10 gallon tank and see what it does.

Should just transition on its own.

It does NOt like to be shaded, fair warning.

Grows really well and densely in mineralized soil tanks, but I keep getting lazy and shading it out, heh.
