Solenoid without a controller?

Post by Larry Grenier »

I just read on a dealer's page that I should have a solenoid even if I don't have a pH controller. Why?

If I buy a JBJ or Milwaukee all-in-one which includes the solenoid, can I use it without a pH controller?

yes you can use it without a controller. I run it 24/7 and really don't have a need for the solenoid part. If it was on the light timer, then there would be about an hour of light for which the CO2 was getting into the water to desirable levels.

So... who recommends that I have it on the same timer as my lights? Is that a good way to do it? I understand that plants use oxygen at night rather than produce it and that the pH tends to drop.

I leave mine on 24/7 also. If you choose to time it, do so separately and start it before the lights go on so levels build up.

Mine are 24/7 too, I don't have a solonoid on either system.
