My 46 is infested with Cherry Red shrimp! At any given time
I can see about 50 or so. Cleaned the filter last night and
found about 40-50 1/4 inch ones living in there.
Also have about 50 or so in my 215 - all of these started from
an original 6 I got a year and a half ago.
Easy shrimp to breed - just add water!
I was casually watching a 10G tank this evening and noticed I may have a similar problem. The tank is about half full of java moss and I put some cherry red shrimp in there a few months ago. I can see at least 10 of the little guys and gals at various locations on the top of the java moss mound I can only guess how many are within the mound and I know that at least one of the females was carrying eggs last week. Hopefully more are on the way.
The only tank mates they have are a herd of monterey platies. The platies are so docile and small that I doubt they eat any of the shrimp.
Perhaps we can call the cherry reds the endler's of the invert world.
