Has anyone ever had a problem of air somehow getting in the eheim's ? i thought it was my reactor blowing out the bubbles, but its not. i looked in the top of the filter and saw lots of air sitting up there.
i have checked all my connection, theyre all tight and there is no leaks.

Dirty or overpacked media? (Can result in cavitation around the impeller but that should be noisy more than buildup in the canister body)).

Really dirty/biofilmed intake hose? (same as above).

Cracked O-ring between canister body and pump head? (potentially negative pressure area, easiest place to suck in ambient air - simple check is to turn the unit off for half an hour and check for seepage at the seam. More complex test: connect the intake to the Python, unit off, return valve closed, open tap carefully - watch for shower/spray, but don't keep presurized long or at high pressure.)

Failure to rock/shake the unit a bit when restored to operation after last cleaning? (It can take a bit for all the air to purge from the media).

I'd consdier the last the most likely - at least the one I am most often guilty of...

My reactors don't completely dissolve the CO2 and air is making it through to the cannisters. Oi! I'm thinking about doubling the length of the reactors to compensate.

Mine does this too...but it is a brand new setup, so I suspect either a cracked o-ring or soe other gremlin. Its too bad, as otherwise this would be a really quiet setup. It is in my bedroom and ocasionally it will wake me up with a particularly nasty air suckign sound...almost as if the sump is running dry.

PS - If you find a solution I'd love to hear about it (or not hear it!)

I need to figure out a way to reduce the air bubbles in my little sump. I have a wall-mounted overflow box and when the water trickles down the pool hose it creates lots of air bubbles in the sump. Both my return pump and the Eheim ocasionally suck a little air, and I get LOTS of tinly little air bubbles being re-introduced back into the tank. Its really irritating!
