Limnophila aromatica

Post by scientist0724 »

So I bought this beautiful bunch at the last auction and it's still retaining it's beautiful color, but it's not rooting and it keeps breaking off, like it's melting just above the substrate. What's going on with this plant?

All my other plants are doing well, just this one is giving my trouble.

Thanks,
Arlene

Arlene,
I had the same issue when I first got that plant. I don't know why it did that though. I just kept trimming the leaves of the bottom, nad continued replanting. It did root, and know it's doing quite well. I think it was my loaches that might have been digging around it initially.

Okay, I'll try that, but I hope I have enough plant left! LOL! About a third of the plant is gone. I just keep trying to replant it and it stays for a few days, and then I find it floating again.

I've had that happen too, a few times. Most recently, with some Ludwigia inclinata var 'Cuba'. It's a beautiful plant but I eventually had to yank it all because the stems kept melting. I never figured out the cause but I'd suspect it is probably due to some kind of nutrient deficiency. Maybe one of the more experienced members can chime in...

Some Limnophila don't adapt well to new homes, so it may just be a case of that. More likely, it's a combination of that and a deficiency of some kind. Tank details would help.

Have you added a whole lot of micros like we talked about? That's a plant that really needs a lot of everything. Give it that, and it's a weed.
