Various Mosses

Post by ricoishere »

I've recently gotten some subwasserstang, and it seems like it's melting with Excel. Does anyone here have any tips on growing this while avoiding the melting? I don't want to stop dosing Excel, and the shrimp love scavenging through it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Do you have other plants in the tank that need Excel?

I keep the Sub in a tank with just java fern and low light and it's doing great - no dosing or CO2.

It is in a tank with other plants/inverts etc. All tanks are dosed/ either med or high light with CO2. It's a great looking moss, hate for it to melt away...

It may need to acclimate to your tank. It took a several weeks, maybe more, in my tank before it started growing.

I hope. It's a cool moss. I managed to get my hands on some rare mosses, adn this is the only one that seems to be struggling. I want to make a moss wall out of it.

Is subwasserstang pella or like pella. The pics online look like pella? I have something in a shrimp tank that I abuse pretty bad but it seems to be doing just fine. I have always thought of it as pella?

It is a volunteer. I don't know where it came from but I have had some growing on&off for any years.

I might take better care of it if I knew it was rare!

Rick,
I really don't know if it's like Pella. I have Pella, it's really cool, like a nice mat. I haven't seen a lot it going around. Pella seems to grow (for me at least) like a mat, the subwasserstang seems to grow like a round mass, well, seems like a melting mass  . I do know I want to have the pella in my 75 and the Sub in my 11. I managed to get a hold of quite a few rare mosses, and I want to make wall out of each. I also have Mini Pella and Fissidens Geppi. I'm not all that crazy about the Geppi though. Looks like bristles of some sort. Maybe after it grows, I'll give it a haircut!
