Pics - extreme load warning!
OK, some update pics:
Full tank shot:
The Discus:
Limnophila aromatica and Echinodorus 'tricolor':
Some of the L. aromatica that will be in Saturday's auction:
Two of the swords (one Red Flame and the 'tricolor') have thrown up flower stalks that breached the surface. I've seen at least one flower open (though none are open in these pics):
On the left side, the Cryptocoryne spiralis and Staurogyne sp. 'Bihar' have absolutely taken over. They'll be in Saturday's auction as well:
One of the secretive (but very beautiful) long-finned bristlenose plecos I got from Rachel O'Leary (msjinkzd on CCA) a few weeks back:
The one cacatuoides fry I could get a pic of (not quite a half inch long):

Jen, they haven't spawned yet (though I think they're getting ready to). The only confirmed spawns I've had recently were the Pearl Gouramis in the 75 and the Apistogrammas in the 90.
I'm not entirely sure which variety these are, I got them when Scales closed, so they're Hans Discus, but my guess is they are Brilliant Turquoise. Based on the way Hans' Alenquers looked when I visited his shop this summer, I don't think they're Alenquers. What I am sure of is that I think they're pretty!

I saw you were having much success with the Apistos in their new big home! Congrats!
The discus will spawn. And then they'll eat their eggs. And then they'll go again in 2 weeks (you can almost literally set a clock to it). And then they'll probably eat their eggs again. This will repeat until they get wigglers, and eat them, then free swimmers and eat them a few times. Once they get the hang of it, though, you'll have more discus than you could ever have wanted and won't know what to do with yourself! All the while the 2 weeks will be closing in and they will be making more. LOL! Pray for small hatches, my friend!

It is not murder if you're killing snails.

Well, let the cycle begin - I now know that at least one of them is, in fact, a female, because a few minutes ago I caught her laying eggs:DonkeyFish wrote:The discus will spawn. In the 20-30 minutes since then, however, I've already seen the rams enjoying some caviar snacks.
And I'd just like to second what Jen was saying in another thread about how great it is to be in this club. We've only been doing this a little over a year now, and most of what we have learned came from members of this club.
In many ways, this isn't our tank, it's GWAPA's tank, because it wouldn't have been possible without you. We have already received many hours of enjoyment from this tank (and indeed, from all of our tanks), and I am sure we will get many more. It's not uncommon at this time of year to reflect on our blessings and be thankful for what we have, and I just wanted to say that we are very thankful to be members of GWAPA!
