digital timers

Post by B Considine »

I have a Catalina 4-bulb fixture and would like to set it up so I have a "noon burst".

I went out and bought a GE 2-outlet digital timer, but it seems that both outlets are either on or off. It doesn't seem to allow for outlet 1 from x to y and outlet 2 from y to z. Do I need 2 separate timers?

What timers do you folks use, and where did you get it?

They do make powerstrips with multiple timers. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=11379

Compared to regular timers, they are a little pricey...

Got mine at Walmart for $20. Single plug light timers.

I have several of the "single digital" coralife timers, and I really like them. But they can't do "noon burst", and IMHO, they don't have enough outlets. More than once, I have needed to plug a regular powerstrip into either the "always on" outlets, the "daytime" outlets, or both.

I bought a double outlet at Home Depot for $16, thinking I could run two appliances separately . After all, it allows for 20 timing options. No deal.

For the time being, I'll just take 2 mechanical timers from our holiday supply box and use them. I just need to get one of those octopus (or is it squid) type multiple outlet thingies.

Wal-Mart has single outlet digital timers, with 6 setting, for about $14.00 and Lowes has some also. The dual timers have one setting for both outlets. I use the powercords with multiple timers, and they can be pricey. Disadvantage to those is if the strip goes bad the whole setup is gone. The benefit? you can turn off the whole strip with one switch.
