Anubias flower!

Post by chris_todd »

The other day Amy discovered that one of the anubias nana we have in our emersed setup had flowered! Woo-Hoo! If I wasn't a lousy photographer with a cheap camera, I'd take a picture. Then again, you've all seen anubias flowers before. Mainly we're just excited and wanted to share. :D

I'm not sure what made it flower, though I did a water change about 2 weeks ago, and added some Flourish Iron and Flourish, so maybe that did it. Perhaps it was the dropping temps? Our emersed setup has 3-4" of water, and a heater that keeps the water about 76* F, but it's in our basement, where the ambient temp is probably 68* and dropping because we haven't turned on the heat yet.

Another anubias looks like it has thrown up a flower that hasn't opened yet; hopefully it will open in the next few days.

Now, if only my emersed crypts would flower... :?

Nice Job.

You are just excited and you wanted to share. Lucky for you we are the people you get to share with. Yes, we've seen anubias flowers, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't tell us. How can we congratulate you, if you don't tell us?

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)

Congratulations Chris.

Yeah, too bad it wasn't a Crypt. flower. Then you would have gotten four replies instead of our measly two.

Cheers.

Hey, I like making Anubias Flower! Plus, they'll actually flower underwater, spathes never open for me underwater.

Grats guys, it is always so cool - like watching your apistos lay eggs, even if you don't rear the babies it is so cool!

Actually, if you'd like to see a picture of our flowering anubias, just look at the photo of Jeff's aquascape from the Iron Aquascaper competition - he used it in the front on the right hand side. I felt so proud, LOL.
