My co-worker has a betta that is sick, I am not sure what is wrong with it. Coloration is off, faded somewhat, and I think the gills are a little distended, and it has been very lethargic.
I change it's water daily, and added a few granuals of aquarium salt this morning. I can't turn up the temp as there is no heater.
Any Ideas on what I can do to help this guy. I have several different kinds of fish meds at home. But to be honest, I haven't used them in a long time and not sure which one would be appropriate.

How big is its container? What kind of water are you using? How much of the water are you changing? Do you use dechlor? Do the gills look pink or red? Does the fish look thin? Daily water changes could be stressing the fish too much, particularly if the new water isn't ideal (including temperature).
It's a small bowl, I would guess it holds approximately 16 oz of water, maybe a little more. I use tap water, treated with Aqueon water conditioner. The fish is a reddish orange color to begin with. It's gill fins are sticking out. He looks average size, he hasn't been eating lately though. He swims eratically at times, and languishes at the surface at other times. He tried to commit suicide last week by jumping out of his bowl twice last Thursday. I normally would do a 50% pwc every MWF but since he has been sick, I thought I would do it daily, so he has some cleaner water.

Poor little guy. Give him some Prozac.
