Sherry;

I don't know if it's still active, but there used to be a great educational website called "Take your bedroom off the grid" that gave a primer on solar power and how you can start with a small system to power one room and then scale up as utililty money is saved.

Any solar supply site should have a solar/PV primer and worksheets.

Another option is a vertical axis wind turbine like this

Cheers.

Now that my 55 gallon pondette has warmed up, the duckweed growth is just exploding and my slacker goldfish don't seem to be interested in it.

Other than scooping it out daily, any suggestions for getting rid of it?

Cheers.

Is Ghazanfar's duckweed extractor feasible to use, or are there too many other surface plants to be effective?

My goldfish always eat it..... Stop feeding the goldfish and maybe they'll go after it??? Other than that, you could net it and compost it... Someone in CCA recommends "Duckweed Soup" too. :shock:

Yeah, the goldfish should go after it. It might take them a little while to figure out. Golden shiners, and, I think, flagfish, will eat it too.

Remember, the stuff is prolific, so it will take a while before you start to see a decline.

You never know what you're going to find, or where you're going to find it. So keep looking.
